Club Tijuana holds clinic in San Diego for academy and affiliates

SAN DIEGO –Xolos Academy teams from throughout California got a chance to experience drills like professionals. Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles coaches were on hand to run a clinic this weekend at El Cajon Valley High School in East San Diego County.

Coaches led Xolos Academy teams from Chula Vista, El Cajon and Oxnard through some of the same tactics and drills used in the Fuerzas Basicas youth development program in Tijuana. The clinic was led by director of youth teams Ignacio Ruvalcaba, who was joined by some of his assistant coaches.

Young players began with a group warm up and then broke into different spots for different drills. The goalkeepers worked separately. The clinic was held as part of Club Tijuana’s commitment to its academies and affiliates in the United States. It also served as a way for Tijuana coaches to keep tabs and an eye at talent who can potentially become part of the Fuerzas Basicas system.

The Xolos Academy in Oxnard traveled for the clinic and left with plenty more experience while the local chapters also good a taste of how the pros train.

“This was a great way to get our teams in the United States involved with what happens in Club Tijuana,” said. Ramon Vazquez, the Xolos Academy administrating director. “It gives coaches a chance to showcase the type of players they are developing in our affiliate teams throughout the country.”
